Judy Frey

Professional Experience
Judy began her career as a speech pathologist in the elementary schools in Livonia, Michigan. After moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan she continued with her speech therapy work in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, the Kent Intermediate School District, and finally ended that career at the Grand Rapids Speech and Hearing Clinic.  Her next twenty years were deeply involved with raising a family and volunteering in her local community.  Her passion for education led to PTA work, then President of the East Grand Rapids School Board, then Trustee of Olivet College.

Her compassion for adequate health programs for all lead to hospital guild participation and on to trustee of a local hospital board. She spent ten years on the County Board of Health as well as volunteering time with United Way, Project Rehab, and West Michigan Mental Health Foundation. Judy created a for profit business and for fifteen years assisted businesses in establishing corporate giving programs focusing on the goals and values of the company.  She attuned the business community to the nonprofit sector.  She championed the positive aspects of corporate giving. Judy’s next challenge was to successfully serve as the mayor of East Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Consulting Experience

  • Business Development: Created a stand alone business and created several non-profit foundations.
  • Decision Making: Created prioritization methodologies.
  • Feasibility Studies and Focus Group Development: Developed agendas, formats and questions for individual and group participation gatherings. Mastered interviewing techniques and findings.
  • Program Development: Worked with over 100 companies in the development of their corporate giving programs. Developed an employee survey allowing expression of employees’ community and social concerns.
    Strategic Planning: Participated in over a dozen strategic planning sessions.
  • Training: Participated in diversity training, empathy training, problem solving, strategic planning, and vision-mission-values development.

Personal Information
Judy and her husband David have their primary home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and spend time in Delray Beach, Florida and Harbor Springs, Michigan. Their six children live and work outside the home. Both Judy and her husband are involved in community work primarily in Grand Rapids. They enjoy spending time traveling in the US as well as abroad. They both believe in strong healthy bodies so exercise is on every day’s agenda.
